Tuesday's best bird at MSQ was a Cuckoo, which remained on a series of fence posts long enough for even the slowest user of binoculars to get a good view. It was a lifer for some. Also: Common Tern, Great Crested Grebe, Swift, Garden Warbler, Reed Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Willow Warbler, Egyptian Geese with young, Common Tern, Oystercatcher, Redshank, Kingfisher, Sand Martin, House Martin, Lapwing etc.

Both Wednesday groups travelled the zigzag route to Wheldrake Ings. In the morning the largest
surprise was a Red Kite soaring over the furthest hide with a Marsh Harrier and a Buzzard. We also saw: Lesser Whitethroat, Garden Warbler, Willow Warbler, Blackcap, Common Whitethroat, Reed Bunting, Swallow, Curlew, Lapwing, Heron, Little Egret, Gadwall etc. In the afternoon a greater shock was near the bridge. A small bird with a large bill and a strange jerky flight flew across out path and into the first Willow tree. It was a Nuthatch collecting food!

Both Thursday group went to Skerne Wetlands. Two morning participants saw a Cuckoo, but most of the others saw Kingfisher, Marsh Harriers, Sedge Warblers, ONE Reed Warbler, Whitethroat, Willow Warbler, Swift, Sand Martin, House Martin, Swallow, Kestrel, Buzzard. Meanwhile a female Tawny Owl was seen in the village.

The Friday morning group travelled to the outskirts of Goole. After over an hour we encountered 2, possibly 3 or even 4 Turtle Doves, although only 2 of these were seen at any one time. We also heard a distant Cuckoo. Other birds seen included: Kingfisher, Great Crested Grebes, Whitethroat, Reed Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Blackcap, Bullfinch, Long-tailed Tits, Cormorant etc
