Hatred is a real force. It has an effect on the thing hated- and a corollary effect on the person doing the hating.
In the late 90's, I worked at Sam's Place in West Philadelphia (405 South 45th Street.) Sam's combined a local hangout, local grocery, coffee shop, and vegetarian- health food store all into one small space. Grad students, a few professors of physics and theoretical science, the hippies, and many attractive young women spent time at Sam's. Two of the interesting young women were Diana and Juliet. These two were friends. But, I had a curious attraction to Diana.
One day, some friends of Juliet explained why she had not been to Sam's in some time. Juliet was very sick. A mix of maladies afflicted her. So, naturally, when I went home, I prayed for her before I went to sleep.
A Dream of Hate:
That night, I had this dream: I saw Diana, standing tall, with her long brown hair draped over her clavicles. She wore a long red dress like a stage curtain. She towered high above normal height. Her eyes were full of dark light radiating out. Dark clouds stormed above her head and flowed forward from behind her. She moved her arms about violently, with no apparent purpose. Lightning flashed, and forms of light passed between cracks in the clouds.
I saw Diana the next day. I began to explain to her, "You know, anger can cause real damage. It can harm a friend..." Before I explained anything else, Diana cut me off.
"Don't talk to me about this. You don't know what she said. I'm mad and I'm not going into this with you."
I was stunned. Recalling how violent and terrible she had been in the dream, and the very real, negative repercussions on Juliet, I closed my mouth and said nothing else. But, I did pray more for Juliet- and for Diana.
But, the curious attraction for Diana ended right there and then.
